Author's Notes: I used the term kami deliberately, as I wanted to distinguish the Norns (western type goddesses) from the Japanese gods. Inspired by a Terry Pratchett quote from Witches Abroad that “Most witches don't believe in gods. They know that the gods exist, of course. They even deal with them occasionally. But they don't believe in them. They know them too well. It would be like believing in the postman.”

A lot had changed in Keiichi Morisato’s life since that day he had fatefully made the wish that “Someone like you would stay with me forever”. Some of these effects were noticeable to even his notoriously dense Upperclassmen; namely a change of address due to the presence of a good looking girlfriend and, inevitably, her sisters.

Other changes were not as noticeable to the casual onlookers, but were still evident to those who wished to see. The most prominent of these was his ever-growing love for Belldandy, but there were also others. Being around the Goddesses has given him adaptability, and a certain ability to ‘go with the flow’ and accept the weird.

But there have been more profound, internal changes in Keiichi’s mindset and belief system. Before he dialed that number, he was an indifferent Shintoist, not making an effort to follow its teachings, but willing to conform to its practices when appropriate. After the initial shock had worn off, and he realised that Belldandy really was was a Goddess, this faith grew, especially as he lived at a temple, and he began worshiping the kami in earnest, knowing that Gods really did exist.

However, this level of devotion could not last long, especially once Urd and Skuld moved in. It is hard to worship a being that gets drunk in front of you on regular basis or one that gorges on ice-cream. Keiichi knew that the Gods existed, and even loved cared for some of them, both on a fraternal and non-fraternal basis, but he didn’t believe in them, and as result, fate, anymore.

Kami-sama, on noticing these changes, approved. After all, while it was alright for a husband to be devoted to his wife, Belldandy would never be happy with a Keiichi that literally worshiped her, and he did want his daughter to be happy.
